Dorcas "Moeder" Mogoerane-Mongale

Class of 1976

The Alumni Association pays tribute to our courageous alumna and struggle stalwart, Dorcas “Moeder” Mogoerane-Mongale, who passed away in 2023. Born in Sophiatown on 24 October 1956, Moeder’s journey led her to Barolong High School in 1974, where her fearless spirit and leadership would leave an indelible mark.

As Head Prefect in 1976, Moeder played a pivotal role in mobilising during the Student Uprisings, standing firm against the oppressive apartheid regime.

Khwezi Zitha

Class of 1978

We pay tribute to Khwezi Zitha, born on 21 January 1961 in Makauspan, Mahikeng. After matriculating from Barolong High School in 1978, Khwezi earned a National Diploma in Mine Surveying, Mining, and Mineral Engineering.

His distinguished career spanned Harmony Gold, Qwest, Shaft Stukers, and DeBeers Group, where he served as a Project Surveyor.

Though he left us on 23 September 2020 after a courageous battle with COVID-19, his values of hard work, faith, and love for family continue to inspire. We remember his warmth, leadership, and unwavering spirit.
